Teaching Method

Process art  is driven and directed by the child focusing on the exploration of materials. The final product is always unique and the child's personality shines through the finished project. Our classes allow children to think creatively, independently, and imaginatively. We provide a positive and fun environment where kids can freely experiment without an end goal or a sample project to copy.  Most importantly children will gain confidence to express their ideas, feeling motivated to ask questions and learn from each other. Each project is thoughtfully planned and a wide range of materials are provided in order to give options to our students. We make sure everyone has fun. There are no mistakes in process art, and each outcome is celebrated!

Hi, I live in Orange County with my husband, one daughter, a Holland lop bunny,  and two maltese mix dogs. I spent my childhood in Korea, New Jersey, and San Jose in the Bay Area.  As a young child, I enjoyed drawing, painting, and making things more than anything. After school, I used to go straight to the art academy my aunt owned and come home when she closed. My mom taught me how to knit when I was seven years old,  and made doll clothes with me. In middle school, I took various art classes at a community college after school. I continued taking art lessons through high school, entered and won many  local  art competitions. As long as I can remember, art has been a big part of my life.   My passion in art helped me get accepted to prestigious art universities like  Pratt, The Art Institute of Chicago, Rhode Island School of Design, The Savannah College of Art and Design, and most importantly  scholarships to the college of my dreams, Parsons School of Design. I was blessed to have my parents support my dream and I moved across the country to get my  Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Parson's in New York City. Thinking back, it was such a fun time in my life! What I cherish the most about this period is all the eclectic and diverse school mates I met. The dormitory was filled with students from around the world, boasting their unique personalities and fashion styles. With my major in Fashion Design, I moved onto work  as a women's clothing designer for the next 10 years. I worked  for a hip French designer named Catherine Malandrino in NYC, an evening dress designer Tadashi in LA, and Tomaso Stefanelli in Italy who was the director of the luxury brand Loro Piana.   I worked so hard including  nights and weekends, traveled around the world and grew my career from an assistant designer to the head designer.

When I got married and became a mom, my perspectives and goals in life changed and being available for the new baby became my priority. We moved out of the Arts District in Los Angeles, and settled in Orange County. I spent my time raising my child and enjoying the suburbs.  We also got to live in Seoul, Korea for a year where my daughter go to speak Korean and establish relationships with the relatives.

Then schools closed beginning of 2020 when my child was in Kindergarten. I tried my best to pass time doing meaningful activities together. We did paintings and drawings, made clay objects, built forts, made doll clothes...etc. I believe in the importance of raising creative thinkers and through art, we learn that there's more than one answer and with creative thinking, we can be great problem solvers in different areas of life. My daughter like me, loves hands on projects and can spend hours making things in her room. It delights me to see her be so tenacious realizing her imagination. And the final products she brings to me are so unexpected from an adult's reality. I hope all kids get to explore their creative minds freely without adults squashing them!

I decided to put together a group of little children along with my daughter and teach weekly art classes outdoors at a beautiful park in the neighborhood.  I enjoy planning various projects, and working in small group settings where I can provide hands on assistance, is such a valued refreshment. Spending time with children, listening to their cute conversations and seeing little hands work hard is a huge blessing.  I am grateful for the parents' support in the community and the opportunity to open up more classes! Since 2021, I  offer various classes in the Great Park Neighborhood  Irvine as the HOA approved programmer. I just got approved to use the spacious Beacon Park meeting room starting 2023.   I am thrilled to be the neighborhood art teacher and look forward to meeting new personalities and doing fun projects together. Eventually, I'd love to open up holiday craft classes for adults, and fine arts classes for older children.

Other than art, I love having great coffee, trying new single malt whiskies, alone time listening to Chillhop music, working on DIY projects around the home,  long talks with old friends, and traveling to new places.  My dream these days is to spend a month or two in the Phu Quoc Islands Vietnam.

Let's be friends!

Thanks for joining!
